Oxfordshire Trained Bands

The Oxfordshire Trained Bands of 1638 consisted of 850 men armed with 500 muskets and 350 corslets (body armour, signifying pikemen). They also mustered 40 lancers and 40 light horse

On 1st September 1642 the Oxford Trained Band prevented students and Royalist supporters from demolishing Osney bridge.

In November 1643 the Oxfordshire Trained Bands were paraded on Bullingdon Green and chose to be disarmed rather than join the Royalist Army.

In March 1643 3 rotten lances were handed over from the Trained band stores to the Royalist magazine at Oxford.
