The Stafford Trained Bands of 1638 consisted of 400 men armed with 248 muskets and 152 corslets (body armour, signifying pikemen). They also mustered 73 cuirassiers and 30 light horse.
In 1651 the Staffordshire Militia fought at the Battle of Warrington Bridge, under Lambert's command.
