The Northampton Trained Bands of 1638 consisted of 579 men armed with 284 muskets and 295 corslets (body armour, signifying pikemen). They also mustered 58 cuirassiers and 50 light horse.

In August 1651 the Northamptonshire militia were ordered to rendezvous at Northampton, then joined Cromwell's army, fighting at the Battle of Worcester in September.
