Notes

A Royalist commission was given to Sir Thomas Hele to take over the regiment from Champernowne in February 1643 (see below) but perhaps was never acted on as Devon was still under control of Parliament. Hele led Sir Thomas Hele’s Regiment of Horse for the Royalists.
