The Cinque Ports Trained Bands of 1638 consisted of 1,975 men armed with 1,649 muskets and 326 corslets (body armour, signifying pikemen). They also mustered a small contingent of 14 horse.
In March 1640 it was ordered that Trained Band men should be shipped to Newcastle for service against the Scots: Cinque-Ports 300. To be shipt the fourth of June at Gravesend, to be at the General Rendezvouz the twenty first of May, to march thence the first of June.1).
