 +John Woodworth of Eccles in the County of Lancaster Shoe maker sworne and examined deposeth and saith that in the beginning of the late warr George Leigh of Barton Esq. hyred this examinant and one Robert Cooke to beare Armes for him under ye Command of ye Earle of Darby which this examinant and the said Cooke did,and the said Mr Leigh did condicion to give this examinant dureinge the time this examinant carried armes for him in the County xii p diem And after he was Commanded out of the County this examinant was to have six pence p diem and in pursuance of the said agreement this examinant did receive of the said Mr Leigh severall sommes of money for his service under the said Earle of Darby at Bury and against Manchester afterwards the said Earle beinge gone from the Leagre at Manchester this examinant marched under the said Earles Command to Wigan and Warrington and there into the South partes of the nacion under Command of Capt. Thomas Prestwich where this examinant continued for the space of three yeares and the said Captaine Prestwich promised to pay this examinant ​ 6d p diem every day after he was gone out of the County for the pay soe promised him by Mr Leigh his Master.

Linnen webster sworne and examined deposes and saith that in the beginning of the late warr vizt about five or six weekes before Michas 1642 this examinant and one John Woodworth were hyred by George Leigh of Barton Esq. to carrie Armes for him the said Mr Leigh under the Command of the Earle of Darby.Hee did condicion to give him this examinant xii d  y diem for every day hee continued in service in this County and a red Coate and if this examinant was Commanded out of this County hee was to give this examinant ​ forty shillings.Afterwards this examinant continued in service in the Leger against Manchester and when that leger was raised hee this examinant went to his Master for some money in parte of his pay,but then this examinant being Commanded into the South parts under Command of Captaine Prestwich a Captaine under the said Earl continued then until after the Batle at Edgehill and then returninge home this examinant repared unto his Master demanded of him his paie accordinge to agreement.But afterwards hee denied to paye this examinant any monies but made him very welcome to have meale and drinke at his house.
