A history of the unit is shown in Edward M. Furgol’s A Regimental History of the Covenanting Armies 1639-1651 Edinburgh, 1990. ISBN 0 85976 194 0

In 1642 the troop were in Parliament's pay1). Balfour never commanded the troop in Ireland, instead becoming a Parliamentarian Colonel, there is no more mention of the troop after 1643, likely they disbanded or were absorbed into another unit. Perhaps they joined George Monro’s Horse
