One troop was formed of dragoons during the First Civil War. Browne's troop (now under Callendar) fought on behalf of the Engagers against the Kirk party forces at Mauchline Muir.

Flags probably captured at Inverkeithing rather than Dunbar. Colonel's red upper & white lower diagonals, white & red fringe. Lt Col Bruce red upper & white lower diagonals, white & blue fringe, large silver fleur de lis surrounded by motto COVENANT FOR RELIGION KING AND KINGDOME.¹⁾

In October 1645, after their victory at Carlisle Sands, the regiment were assigned 100 back-and-breast pieces, 100 helmets and 100 pairs of pistols.

Browne served as a captain then Lt Col of Maj. Gen. David Leslie’s Regiment of Horse in 1643 and 1644. He led the Scots horse at Inverkeithing in 1651 and was captured there, dying in captivity in September 1651.
