 +Hugh Fraser, 7th Lord Lovat, had led his [[covenanter:​foot-regiments:​lord-lovat|clansmen]] on behalf of the Covenanters but died in 1646. His son and heir, Hugh Fraser, 8th Lord Lovat was only born in 1643. Therefore it fell to the Master and Tutor to lead the clan regiment during the time of the Third Civil War. The regiment was known as the Master of Lovat'​s,​ the Tutor of Lovat'​s or Lord Fraser'​s Foot.
